Broom Finish Concrete

Simple, grippy, dependable.

A broom finish is created by drawing a stiff broom across freshly floated concrete, leaving fine ridges for traction. It’s the most popular finish for side paths, driveways and ramps — affordable, slip-resistant and easy to maintain.

Often chosen with plain concrete, concrete ramps, concrete footpaths & pathways.

Broom Finish Concrete questions, answered

Is broom finish good for steep driveways?

Yes — a heavy broom finish across the slope gives excellent tyre and foot grip, even in wet weather.

Can broom finish be coloured?

Yes. Colour-through oxide works well with a broom finish for a cleaner, warmer look.

How is a broom finish made?

After the concrete is floated smooth, we drag a stiff broom across the surface while it’s still soft. The fine ridges give grip underfoot and for tyres.

Which direction should the broom lines run?

Across the slope, so the ridges catch feet and tyres and water drains off. On driveways that means broom lines run side to side, not up and down.

Is broom finish easy to clean?

Yes. A pressure washer cleans broom-finished concrete quickly, and a penetrating sealer stops dirt and mould settling into the texture.
