Concrete Steps questions, answered
Do concrete steps need a handrail?
Building rules depend on the height and number of steps. We’ll advise during the site measure and leave provision for a compliant handrail.
Can you match my existing path?
Yes, we can match the finish and colour of an existing path or driveway as closely as possible.
How high should each step be?
For comfortable, compliant stairs, risers are generally between 115 and 190 mm and treads at least 240 mm deep. We keep every step in a flight the same size so nobody trips on an odd one.
Can steps be poured onto an existing slope?
Yes. We form the steps to follow the ground, compact the base under each tread and add steel so the flight doesn’t settle or crack away from the slope.
Can steps have a nosing or lighting built in?
We can form a bullnose or square-edged nosing and cast in conduit for step lights. Your electrician fits the lights after the pour.
