Concrete Extensions questions, answered

Will the extension match my existing concrete?

We get as close as possible, but new concrete will look slightly different from aged concrete at first. Sealing both sections helps them blend.

Will the join crack?

Dowel bars and a proper joint keep both slabs moving together and prevent a step forming between them.

How is a new section joined to old concrete?

We drill steel dowels into the edge of the existing slab and epoxy them in, so the extension can’t drop or lift independently. A formed joint keeps the junction straight.

Can I extend a driveway to the side boundary?

Usually, provided drainage works and any easements are respected. We check for stormwater, sewer and boundary setbacks before we form up.

Is it better to extend or replace the whole slab?

If the existing concrete is level and sound, an extension saves money. If it’s cracked, stained or a very different colour, replacing it or resurfacing everything together gives a better result.
