Honed Concrete
Smooth to the touch. Safe when wet.
Honed concrete is ground to reveal the stone, then sealed rather than polished. The result is a smooth, natural-looking surface with a soft matte finish — the go-to for alfresco areas, pool surrounds and covered patios where you want polished looks with outdoor grip.
Often chosen with polished concrete, pool surrounds, patios & alfresco areas.

Guides: The best non-slip concrete finish for a pool surround, Polished, honed or grind and seal concrete?
Honed Concrete questions, answered
Honed or polished — what’s the difference?
Both are ground to reveal stone. Polished is taken to a high shine with densifier; honed stops earlier and is sealed, giving more grip outdoors.
Does honed concrete need resealing?
Yes, outdoor honed concrete should be resealed every 2–3 years to keep it protected and looking fresh.
Where is honed concrete best used?
Alfresco areas, pool surrounds and indoor living areas where you want a smooth, stone-like look without the shine of full polish.
Can honed concrete be made non-slip?
Yes. Outdoor honed surfaces are sealed with a penetrating or anti-slip sealer to meet the right slip rating for wet areas.
Does honed concrete show the stone?
It can. A light hone shows mostly cement with fine sand. A full hone grinds deeper to reveal more of the aggregate.
